It’s Mental Illness Awareness Week, and access to care matters in every community. Last week, we shared the ribbon cutting for Castleview Hospital’s new behavioral health center in Price. Now, CEO Mark Holyoak is taking you inside for a tour.

The center opens in early November. It will bring specialized inpatient care closer to patients and families in rural Utah.

Why it matters: The 14-room center is the first of its kind in rural Utah, giving people experiencing a behavioral health crisis access to dedicated care without having to leave the region.

Designed for safety: Every part of the center was planned to protect patients and staff while supporting recovery.

  • Private rooms give patients space to focus on their individual needs.
  • Specialized glass, doors, fixtures, furniture and linens reduce safety risks.
  • An open nurses station provides clear visibility throughout the unit.
  • Consultation and group therapy rooms support a range of treatment needs.

Built for healing: Natural light, courtyard views and familiar local artwork create a calmer, more welcoming environment. Activity and therapy spaces also give patients room to connect, express themselves and participate in treatment.

The big picture: Rural communities often face limited access to behavioral health services. Castleview Hospital’s new center represents a significant investment in local care and could serve as a model for expanding behavioral health resources in other rural communities.

What’s next: The center is expected to begin serving patients in early November. Castleview Hospital will monitor community needs as it considers opportunities to expand behavioral health capacity in the future.
