Kevin Johnson recognized with distinguished healthcare executive award

Kevin A. Johnson, FACHE, CEO for Mountain View Hospital in Payson, was recently awarded the Distinguished Healthcare Executive Award by the Utah Hospital Association. The award, presented during the Association’s Fall Leadership Conference at Deer Valley in Park City, recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to improving healthcare in the state of Utah.

Throughout the course of his 33-year career in healthcare administration, Johnson has been recognized as an active, compassionate leader, committed to providing excellent care to the community.

Johnson has worked at Mountain View Hospital in Payson since 1994 and was appointed CEO in 1996. Over the course of his tenure, he has seen the Payson community experience tremendous growth, and has led the hospital team in planning for the healthcare needs of an expanding area. Today, Mountain View is a 130-bed hospital offering the latest in healthcare technology and a full range of clinical services. More than 400 hospital employees and volunteers work closely with 200+ physicians in providing outstanding patient care and satisfaction, tailoring services to meet community needs.

Under Johnson’s guidance, Mountain View has been consistently recognized as a leader in healthcare quality. The hospital has received numerous quality awards, including the Patient Safety Excellence Award from HealthGrades and six consecutive “A” Hospital Safety Grades by the Leapfrog Group. Mountain View also received the HealthInsight Quality Award for seven consecutive years. 

Johnson is a strong supporter of continuing education and professional development for healthcare administrators. He received “Fellow” status with the American College of Healthcare Executives early in his career and has continued supporting the College through involvement in state-based activities.  From 2012-2014 Johnson served as President of Utah Healthcare Executives, the local chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives. He followed this term by serving as Regent for the state of Utah from 2015 to 2018.

Johnson is a Utah native, earning his bachelors in business management from Weber State University. He later earned his masters in health administration from The Ohio State University. After obtaining his MHA, he spent four years as an administrative fellow and assistant administrator for Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky before returning to Utah and starting his career at Mountain View.

His community involvement includes being a member of the Nebo Education Foundation Board for more than 10 years, and a member of the Payson City Economic Development Committee. In the healthcare arena, Johnson is a past member of the UHA Board of Trustees and serves as an active participant in the Association’s Government Relations Committee.

UHA is a private, not-for-profit trade association representing Utah’s hospitals and health systems.
