Mark B. Adams, Chief Executive Officer for Ogden Regional Medical Center, was recently awarded the 2018 Distinguished Hospital Executive Award by the Utah Hospital Association. The award, presented during the Association’s Fall Leadership Conference at Zermatt Resort in Midway, recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to Utah’s healthcare community. Criteria evaluated for the honor include the candidate’s administrative excellence, professional performance and leadership qualities.
In his work as CEO, Adams is laser-focused on the Ogden Regional mission and its values of Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence. He holds a fundamental belief that employee and physician engagement, financial results and growth opportunities stem from living the hospital’s Mission. This commitment has resulted in several accolades for the facility, including receiving HCA’s 2016 Excellence in Engagement designation, significantly improving patient satisfaction ratings and growing market share in Newborn Intensive Care and Oncology Services.
During Adams’ tenure, Ogden Regional has seen great growth and an expansion in several service lines, including Behavioral Health with a Residential Treatment Center for Alcohol & Drug Rehabilitation. The hospitals’ Orthopedic Traumatology services have also expanded, as well as its Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine programs. Ogden Regional also boasts an Expanded Intermediate Care Unit and Tomotherapy Radiation treatment services for Northern Utah.
Adams is a well-known and respected leader in the community. Currently he is a board member for the Utah Hospital Association, Weber School Foundation and the YMCA. Additionally, he serves on the EMS Executive Committee and on the AHA Section for Metro Hospitals, as well as maintaining membership in the Ogden-Weber Chamber of Commerce.
Adams holds a Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor’s degree in Zoology from Brigham Young University. Prior to his appointment as CEO at Ogden Regional in 2006, he served as CEO of West Valley Medical Center in Caldwell, Idaho for 14 years.
Adams’ executive team, who nominated him for this award, praise him for his focus on quality. Mark has earned the respect of clinical bedside caregivers as well as the executive team and board of trustees. Colleagues describe him as “the ultimate diplomat--never overreacting but rather sorting through problems in a calm manner.” This demeanor has bred trust among his leadership team to be honest and open about the hospital and any issues they are facing.
In reflecting on Adams’ leadership at Ogden Regional, Sister Stephanie Mongeon commented, “When Mark was selected as the CEO at Ogden Regional Medical Center in 2006, his presence radiated a personable leadership style. He immediately grasped the culture of “compassionate care” that was the hallmark of the Sisters of the Order of St. Benedict. He has since created an empowered environment for employees and providers to deliver the best possible healthcare. Mark is a steady and wonderful leader. Ogden Regional Medical Center is extremely privileged to have him at the helm.”
