Steven Mintz, MD, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Salt Lake Regional Medical Center, was recently awarded the 2018 Hospital Trustee Service Award by the Utah Hospital Association. The award, presented during the Association’s Fall Leadership Conference at Zermatt Resort in Midway, recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to Utah’s healthcare sector while serving as a community trustee.
As an accomplished general surgeon and clinical professor, Dr. Steven Mintz has been an active medical staff member at Salt Lake Regional Medical Center since 1981. Over the past 30-plus years, Dr. Mintz has become a vital and integral part of Salt Lake Regional’s hospital family and the patients under his care.
Along with his role as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Salt Lake Regional Medical Center, Dr. Mintz also serves the hospital as a Credentials Committee member, General Surgery Division Chair, Chief of Staff, and a Physician Advisor representing the hospital at Corporate PAC meetings.
Dr. Mintz has made significant contributions to the Salt Lake City community as well as Utah’s healthcare sector as a whole. He has received numerous awards recognizing his contributions as an outstanding physician and educator at the University of Utah. These awards include the Outstanding Preceptor Award from the University’s PA program, Specialty Teacher of the Year from the Family Residency Program and the Excellence in Teaching Award from the U School of Medicine.
Beyond academia, Dr. Mintz is also committed to the broader scope of healthcare. He has participated in the Ronald McDonald House “Men in Kilts” charity event, among others. He is a former President of the Salt Lake Surgical Society. Furthermore, Dr. Mintz’s compassion and charitable contributions have extended beyond U.S. borders into the global arena as he traveled to Nepal to teach medical providers the necessary skills required to care for their patients. He has also opened his home and hosted foreign exchange students from China for several years.
