Paul Weller, a member of the Heber Valley Hospital Board of Trustees, was recently awarded the 2018 Rural Hospital Trustee Service Award by the Utah Hospital Association. The award, presented during the Association’s Fall Leadership Conference at Zermatt Resort in Midway, recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to Utah’s healthcare sector while serving as a community trustee.

Weller joined Intermountain Heber Valley Hospital’s Community Board in 2012. His exemplary leadership and commitment to excellence has led to significant improvements for Heber Valley Hospital and the Wasatch Back community.

Weller was instrumental in securing funding to build the Pat Moran Dialysis Center at Heber Valley Hospital. The Center provides patients living in Summit and Wasatch counties with hemodialysis services and access to a board-certified nephrologist specializing in kidney disease. Before the dialysis center opened, patients had to travel to Salt Lake City or Provo several times a week to receive treatment. Since opening in 2014, the center has allowed patients the ability to receive their life-saving treatment closer to home, easing their travel burden. Additionally, dialysis patients vacationing in Park City or the Heber Valley have a new option that can decrease disruption to their vacation plans.

Weller’s ongoing commitment to the Wasatch Back community has had significant operational impact as Heber Valley and Park City Hospitals work toward a combined medical staff. He has been an effective bridge builder and strategic thinker, using his time and talents to analyze issues and offer advice during this time of transition.

Weller is active on a variety of Heber Valley Hospital governance committees, including the Community Relations Committee, the Philanthropy Committee and the Medical Staff Planning Committee. The latter is a joint committee between the Heber Valley Hospital and Park City Hospital Governing Boards.

Professionally, Paul is the owner of Weller Recreation in Kamas, Utah. His business acumen and familiarity with the Wasatch Back community has been a valuable asset for the Heber Valley Hospital Board.

“Paul’s contributions to improving health services available in Utah’s “Wasatch Back” are significant and cannot be overstated,” commented Si Hutt, Heber Valley Hospital Administrator. “His genuine care and concern for the people of the Heber Valley community has been demonstrated time and time again, resulting in a healthier Heber Valley.”
