CommonSpirit Holy Cross- Jordan Valley Cancer Center is launching a free support group rooted in logotherapy, the approach pioneered by psychiatrist Viktor Frankl.

Why it matters: A cancer diagnosis can shake a person’s sense of purpose, not just their health. This program gives patients, survivors and caregivers a place to process that together.

The details:

  • What: Weekly Meaning-Centered Therapy support group
  • When: Starts Thursday, October 22nd. Every Thursday (except holidays), 5:30 to 7:30 PM
  • Where: CommonSpirit Holy Cross- Jordan Valley Cancer Center
  • Who: Open to all adults 18+, in treatment or remission
  • Cost: Free

How it works: From 5:30 to 6:00 PM, social time. The formal session runs 6:00 to 7:30 PM. A separate, volunteer-staffed space is also available for caregivers during sessions.

The backstory: Frankl developed logotherapy after surviving four Nazi concentration camps, where he observed that people who found meaning, even in small moments, were better able to endure suffering. Research since has linked meaning-centered approaches to improved quality of life and reduced depression in people facing serious illness.

The bottom line: No one should face a cancer diagnosis alone, and this group gives the community another way to find support and meaning through connection.
