The big picture: Holy Cross Hospital Jordan Valley has been named one of Leapfrog’s 2025 Top General Hospitals, the only hospital in Utah to receive the award and the highest scoring general hospital in the nation.
Why it matters: The Leapfrog Top Hospital award is one of the most competitive recognitions for hospital safety and quality nationwide, evaluating rigorous standards for patient care and clinical excellence.
What they’re saying: “This is just an extra validation for us,” said Hospital President Christine McSweeney. “We knew we were delivering excellent, incredible care and putting all the right pieces in place. But this is just an extra validation for us. And we sit amongst giants in this market and in this state. So it means an incredible amount to us that we’re standing next to them strong.”
The bottom line: McSweeney hopes this recognition “sends the message that this community can trust and rely on this organization to receive excellent care in their community.”
What drives excellence: McSweeney attributes the success to strong leadership and investing in teams. “Leadership matters. First, it starts with creating good, trusting relationships and a lot of psychological safety in the organization. Having great leaders on our units who know how to engage and inspire their teams, that they keep them informed on new practices and protocols.”
Community commitment: Beyond clinical care, Holy Cross Jordan Valley and West Valley won Business of the Year from ChamberWest, reflecting the hospital’s dedication to serving the broader community. “I have a very strong passion around serving our communities. And sometimes that’s not just inward looking, that’s outward looking too,” McSweeney said.
