The period between Memorial Day and Labor Day marks the “100 Deadliest Days” of summer – a time when injuries among children spike dramatically.
Primary Children’s Hospital is stepping up with crucial safety information to keep kids safe while they enjoy their summer break.
Why it matters
Accidents happen in seconds, but their effects can last a lifetime. “We can fix broken arms pretty easy, but broken brains are really hard to fix,” said Michelle Jamison, community health program manager for Intermountain Primary Children’s Hospital.
By the numbers
- Accidents are the leading cause of death among children of all ages
- Falls top the list of preventable injuries every summer
- Many of these incidents could be prevented with proper safety measures
Prevention is key
Primary Children’s develops safety campaigns based on actual patient injury patterns they see. Their top recommendation? Helmets.
“Making sure that your kid every ride, every time, they’re wearing this helmet” is essential – especially with the growing popularity of high-speed e-bikes.
The bottom line
A little prevention goes a long way in protecting children during these high-risk summer months.
